On Capitol Hill, the Newest Places to Play Don't Card at the Door

On E Pine, at 501, the noise coming through the door is somebody cheering a prize down a claw-machine chute. Chibi Tings, a Japanese-style "clawcade," opened there this month. Next door, The Tilted Table has pinball machines and tabletop games under the name the old Raygun Lounge took when it reopened in May. Both admit all ages.

Over the past year, Capitol Hill has gained or saved several places built around play. Every one that opened or reopened in 2026 lets anyone in. The 21+ rooms are the established ones. For anyone planning a night out with a teenager, a visiting niece or a friend who is twenty, the neighborhood now offers more choices than it did a year ago.

Two doors on E Pine, both open to everyone

Capitol Hill Seattle Blog reported on October 21 that Chibi Tings is open at 501 E Pine with traditional Japanese UFO catchers, mini claws, giant gashapon capsule dispensers and blind-box stations. The prizes include imported plushies, anime collectibles and specialty Asian snacks. Play runs on tokens called "tings," and a $20 buy-in typically buys enough plays to win a few prizes. The owner is Brent Hanada, a first-time Capitol Hill entrepreneur, and the arcade's promise to customers is short: "We cheer wins." The storefront used to house the Kpop Nara boutique, which moved to E Pike.

In the same CHS story, the opening "double-upped the all-ages good times on the block," because The Tilted Table is right next door.

The Tilted Table has been on E Pine longer than its name suggests. Eric and Amy Logan opened Gamma Ray Games on E Pine near Crawford in 2009. They added the Raygun Lounge arcade bar a few blocks up the hill in 2012 and combined the two into one space in 2014. Last December, CHS reported on an effort led by River Flanary to take over the all-ages arcade bar and tabletop hangout. A crowdfunding campaign helped, and Flanary announced a new lease for the E Pine space in March.

The venue reopened in May under its new name. Its announcement, as quoted by CHS, listed what changed:

We are operating at regular hours once more so please come visit us and check out the new Pokemon and medieval madness pinball machines and our sick new bar top!!

The old Raygun website is still online under the former name, so check hours on the venue's Instagram, @thetiltedtablecaphill, before you go.

A board game café founded on the age question

Walk a few blocks west and the all-ages side of the map gets its clearest statement of purpose. Loot Table Café opened this summer in the historic Odd Fellows building across from Cal Anderson Park. Fleet Feet sold running gear in that space for two decades before closing in late 2024 to focus on its Ballard store.

CHS reported that founder Michael Sibley started the café after his own gaming group kept running into friction. The problems he listed were overcrowded local shops, dim lighting, small tables and 21+ restrictions. Loot Table is all ages by design. Guests can host ongoing campaigns, organize public games, reserve a seat as a solo player, bring their own games or use the in-house library. You pay a seat fee for open use of the library. The café's site lists hours of noon to 11 p.m., Wednesday through Monday, closed Tuesday.

Loot Table joined an older tabletop circuit. Broadway's Phoenix Games marked its tenth anniversary in 2023. The Raygun's new ownership has described the place as somewhere "where pinball wizards meet board game strategists; where LGBTQ+ folks feel safe and at home; where tabletop RPG campaigns unfold, and Magic: The Gathering games rage on."

The 21+ anchors, one year on

On the 21+ side, the anchors are long established, and one of them had its own comeback a year ago. Unicorn, the carnival bar at 1118 E Pike, reopened on October 30, 2025, after a three-month closure caused by smoke and water damage from a fire. Its basement sibling, Narwhal, was affected too. CHS's reopening story noted changes to the event and performance lineup that came with the reopening, including the end of the Mimosas Cabaret run. This Friday marks one year since the doors reopened.

Unicorn's site lists both rooms as 21+ at all times, with a claw machine and arcade and pinball games among the draws. Unicorn opens at 5 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and closes at 1:45 a.m. Narwhal runs later into the evening, opening between 6 and 7 p.m. depending on the night.

Time Warp, at 1420 10th Ave, combines pinball and arcade cabinets with a noodle bar. Its site says it is 21+ only. It opens at 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at noon Friday through Sunday, and stays open until 2 a.m. every night. When it opened in late 2022, CHS called it the neighborhood's dedicated arcade bar for adults.

Here is how the map looks with the door policy as the first column.

Venue Address Door policy How play works
Chibi Tings 501 E Pine All ages "Tings" tokens, $20 typical buy-in

Recess 206 Broadway E Mixed; see below Lanes by booking; wristband arcade coming

Recess, still being built on Broadway

The newest addition is still under construction, and its door policy is the hardest to pin down. In August, CHS reported that the Blade and Timber axe-throwing bar at 206 Broadway E was becoming Recess under a new local ownership mix. The space sits in a former retail storefront on Broadway, below the comedy club upstairs. The parent company is moving away from single-activity venues and toward what it calls multi-attraction social hubs, and Recess has a sister location in Lawrence, Kansas.

The plan opens the axe lanes to darts and adds billiards, an event space, a classic cocktail bar and arcade games played on an unlimited-play wristband. CHS reported this month that Arcade Supernova of Kansas City is installing the machines. The company restores, maintains and rotates vintage arcade cabinets and pinball machines from the 1980s and 1990s.

Recess's own site says "Open Daily" and "21 + Welcome." It also lists a minimum age of 10 to throw axes, a Sunday Family Day with children at half price, and a private room that holds up to 120. Billiards and the wristband arcade are both still marked "Coming Soon." If you plan to bring anyone under 21, book a lane for the Sunday family session and confirm with the venue first.

Planning a night by who's coming

Once you know the door policy, the geography follows. The all-ages venues sit together on E Pine, from the Odd Fellows building across from Cal Anderson up to 501. The 21+ rooms are spread out, on E Pike and on 10th Ave.

  • A group with someone under 21. Start at Chibi Tings with a $20 token buy-in, then move next door to The Tilted Table for pinball. Loot Table Café, a few blocks away, can host the long board game that follows, any day except Tuesday.
  • A board game crowd of mixed ages. Reserve seats at Loot Table and bring the game everyone keeps meaning to finish, or borrow one from the shelves. Phoenix Games on Broadway can supply a new one.
  • Adults only, late. Time Warp opens earliest on weekends, at noon, and stays open until 2 a.m. Unicorn is a short walk away, and Narwhal stays open after dark downstairs.
  • A birthday or work group. Recess books lanes now and rents its event room. Ask what's open on the day before you promise anyone the arcade.
